Little Women takes place during the Civil War in New England. There are four sisters. Meg is the eldest who dreams of riches and fine things. Jo is a playful girl with a love for writing. Beth is loving and caring with a shy side. And finally, artistic Amy, the youngest.
Their father is a soldier in the war and becomes sick, causing there mother to leave and take care of him. During this time period Beth goes daily to a sick baby's house to care for him and the family. One day she arrived pale and told her sisters that he had died. A couple of days later Beth is victim of the scarlet fever. Meg and Amy are forced to leave as to not catch the sickness and Jo stays to care for her dear sister.
Amy is taken to her Aunt March's home, whom she most dreads. But as time passes by, she becomes friends with Estelle. She learns many things and becomes less ambitious with wanted to be someone else.
During this time period their father becames better and their mother returns. Beth's condition becomes healthier but never completely. Meg has fallen in love with John, who has nothing but will get a steady job to be able o care for her. Soon the first wedding takes place.
